It is now available for pre-order from Amazon.uk Sylvia Anderson's upcoming book, "My FAB Years", now appears to be coming out in late December. Amazon.com has updated their cover photo for this book, and has it listed in paperback and autographed paperback! In the UK, Amazon.uk also has it available for pre-order in paperback and hardback. |

I'm informed that fans of Ed Bishop can see the play for half-price by calling the box office at 0207 503 1646 and mentioning the "Ed Bishop/UFO half-price offer". |

| 4-Oct-06 | An update on the Australian UFO DVD set -- Umbrella Entertainment is now quoting a release date of "March 2007". There's a new UFO book coming out next month -- "UFO: The Technical Manual" by Nick Foreman and Chris Bentley, which is a 48-page book featuring information and illustrations, and has an official release date of 1 November 2006. It's available for pre-order from Amazon.uk. At this weekend's Fanderson convention, the talking Gay Ellis figure will be available for purchase from Comet Miniatures (3 weeks before its official release date). Guests at this convention include Gerry Anderson (UFO's co-creator and co-producer), Shane Rimmer (actor who appeared in the UFO episode "Identified"), and Mike Trim (one of UFO's model designers). Gabrielle Drake will be appearing in "Dear Scheherazade" on October 22nd in Louth, Lincolnshire! |
| 27-Sep-06 | For those of you in Australia who have been patiently waiting for UFO to be released on DVD, I've got news of yet another delay -- Umbrella Entertainment have pushed back the release date yet again, this time to "sometime in 2007". This release (if it ever comes out) is supposed to contain additional extras not found on any other release, including a commentary by George Sewell. I'd suggest that people who are interested in buying this should e-mail or call Umbrella Entertainment and ask them what's taking them so long! (this was originally scheduled to be released in 2004) This web page features an interview with actor David Collings. At last month's ISOSHADO event, Gito Santana discovered that Cards Inc. had released an autographed UFO "Alien" card featuring a photo of him, but autographed by Stuart Myers. Never having heard of a Stuart Myers, he located him and went to his house. Turns out that Stuart Myers has no recollection of ever appearing in UFO, and that apparently Cards Inc. paid him to sign the card thinking that nobody could tell who was inside the Alien suit. Gito has now initiated legal action against Cards Inc. Note that it turns out that the Cards Inc. UFO costume card is also apparently a fraud -- the cloth on the card is advertised as being used in a costume worn by Ed Bishop, but apparently it isn't. (thanks to Gito Santana and Chris Bentley for this information) |

I've received my A&E UFO DVD Set 2! Basically, it's just like A&E's Set
1, with the same type of packaging, artwork, menus, and superb video & audio
quality on all of the episodes.
I'm sure that there will be a variety of opinions on this subject, but I find
these 2 new commentaries more entertaining than the previous Gerry Anderson and Ed
Bishop UFO commentaries. Perhaps it's simply the chemistry of having two people reminiscing/playing
off each other, or perhaps there was more time spent in preparation prior to the
recording sessions.
This set also includes photo galleries, however, unfortunately these are all simply
frame captures from the episodes, as they were with A&E's UFO DVD Set 1. |

In France, today is the release date for TF1 Video's UFO DVD Set, which is available from Amazon.fr! Word has it that these DVD's do not use the newly remastered source materials as seen on the UK and American DVD releases, so therefore they are most likely less detailed, bright, colorful, have more problems with film dirt and grain, and have lower fidelty sound. A&E have updated their UFO
DVD description with the list of episodes and special features. They list 13
episodes, and much fewer special features than are on the Carlton UK DVD's. They
also list this as being in surround sound -- many fans thought the surround sound
on THUNDERBIRDS and CAPTAIN SCARLET was poorly done, so I don't see this as good
news. If you would like to give A&E any feedback about the lack of extras, or the lack of the original mono soundtrack, you might want to fill out their feedback form (use the "Shop A&E" category). But you should do this quickly, because soon it will be too late for A&E to change these DVD's! |

for pre-order on their online store, with a shipping date of July 2nd! Note that the A&E website is selling this at full retail price ($80), plus charges $10 for shipping. I'm back in town, and found my Carlton UFO DVDs waiting for me when I got home! So far the fan response to these DVDs has been overwhelmingly positive -- the video & audio quality is stunning, surpassing the 1992 Japanese UFO laserdiscs! Surprisingly, the DVDs are encoded as Region 0 ("region free"), meaning that they should play in unmodified DVD players which support the PAL video standard (e.g., Australia). They should also play in most (if not all?) computer DVD-ROM players worldwide. However, since they are in the PAL video format, they are incompatible with most of the DVD players and TV sets sold in America. That said, I live in America, and am able to watch them with an inexpensive DVD player which includes a built-in PAL/NTSC converter. |

Happy Holidays! In case you're wondering why this site has not been updated for the last month, it's for the typical reasons -- holiday preparation, holiday travel, and illness.
