Opening scene : An American space capsule, the astronauts talking to Cape Con
(Cape Cod flight Control), saying: "All is well. Going into fourth orbit."
Cape Con calls Hawaii flight control
Hawaii flight controller (Ed Bishop) says "Hawaii to Jupiter XVI. There is an
unidentified object closing on you fast from astern. Can you see it?"
Cape Con : "Hawaii we have nothing here. Hold while we check with Space Track."
Hawaii : "Hawaii to Jupiter XVI. Repeat - Hawaii to Jupiter XVI. There is an
unidentified object on our scope closing fast"
Jupiter XVI : "We see nothing. Can you give me a bearing?"
Hawaii : "Appears to be coming up fast from astern."
Jupiter XVI : "Hey now we see it. It's another space craft. I repeat - It's
another space craft."
Cape Con : "Does it look like a close pass?"
Jupiter XVI "It's opening up. It's coming right at us. The front is opening
up..."
Cape Con "Jupiter XVI Do you read me? I repeat do you read me? You're breaking
up."
Hawaii : "Hawaii to Jupiter XVI. Hawaii to Jupiter XVI. Are you receiving me?"
... (confused voices from various sources) ....
Hawaii : "Hawaii to Jupiter XVI. Are you receiving me? Come in please. Over."
Silence ..... the American space capsule was swallowed up while in orbit.
The Americans suspect the Russians to be behind this, but the British Government
suspect that other powers are at work as the space craft seemingly goes down near
the Sea of Japan.
Then the Soviets lose a space craft of their own in similar circumstances. When James
Bond is sent to investigate he discovers S.P.E.C.T.R.E. is the force behind the theft,
and he must first find out where the captured space capsule is held before America
and Russia initiate another world war.
This action packed, exciting thriller sees Ian Fleming's James Bond at his best,
making the viewer believe stories like this could actually happen.
A very young Ed Bishop appearing in the very first scenes of this film makes it even
more special. It's also funny to see him talking about unidentified flying objects
a few years before he became commander of SHADO!
